Bracelet Initiative: Recorded Orientation Session Available for Community-Based Healthcare Providers

Healthcare providers and staff at community-based organizations are invited to watch a recording of an orientation to the Connecticut Urgent Maternal Warning Signs Bracelet Initiative.  The orientation session is designed to supplement and reinforce the September 15 training webinar, which is available on demand for continuing education credits.  The orientation includes background on the Bracelet Initiative and its goals to support maternal health in Connecticut, an explanation of the distribution process for orange bracelets and educational materials, a review of the initiative’s website and digital resources, and a group discussion about opportunities to amplify the initiative’s impact throughout the state.

Birthing hospitals across Connecticut are currently developing implementation plans to provide orange bracelets and educational materials to postpartum patients in their facilities.  Central to the success of this initiative is enhancing timely recognition of and response to symptoms of potentially serious postpartum complications, known as “urgent maternal warning signs.”  As hospitals roll out their programs, community-based organizations and healthcare providers are encouraged to share and print digital assets from the web-based Implementation Toolkit to help raise awareness about urgent maternal warning signs.  Community providers who work with pregnant and postpartum people, such as Women, Infants and Children (WIC) staff, home visiting staff, community health center staff, lactation consultants, community doulas, health department staff, OB-GYN offices, urgent care center staff, and pediatrician office staff, play an essential role in educating patients and the public about urgent maternal warning signs.
