Standing Strong for Falls Prevention Awareness Week

Governor Ned Lamont has again issued a proclamation declaring Falls Prevention Awareness Week in Connecticut from September 21-25, 2026, corresponding to the National Council on Aging’s (NCOA) annual health campaign observed during the first days of fall.

Connecticut hospitals are proud partners of Falls Free CT, a statewide coalition with a mission to reduce preventable falls through collaboration, resource development, education, and outreach. This month also marks the second anniversary of Falls Free CT, which was launched by the Connecticut Departments of Aging and Disability Services (ADS) and Public Health (DPH) in September 2024.

The coalition’s falls prevention champions are committed to:

  • Educating professionals and the public about the importance of falls prevention
  • Gathering, analyzing, and monitoring falls prevention data and trends for developing falls prevention initiatives
  • Implementing and enhancing community-based initiatives to reduce falls risks
  • Improving safety across home and public environments through modifications, new technologies, and injury-prevention policies

The purpose of Falls Free CT, led by the Bureau of Aging, is to bring together falls prevention champions who are committed to reducing the incidence of falls among older adults by sharing public programming, compiling valuable resources, discussing best practices, and collecting and analyzing comprehensive data. The coalition raises awareness about biological, behavioral, and environmental risk factors and recommends evidence-based prevention measures.
