PROUD: Trauma-Informed Care Summer Webinar Series – Trauma Responsiveness in the Context of CT CAPTA 6/10/25

This presentation will provide an overview of CT CAPTA and recent changes across the system that have enhanced and promoted trauma informed practices related to CAPTA. The presentation will help healthcare and community providers who work with pregnant individuals understand their roles and responsibilities within the scope of CAPTA, understand trauma informed principles and treatment models, recognize the implications of stigma, and how to provide trauma informed care and support to individuals and families who are impacted by CAPTA legislation. Resources will also be provided for additional support and technical assistance related to CAPTA.

Presenter: Bridget Aliaga, MPH, Behavioral Health Program Manager, Women’s Services, CT Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS)

Bridget Aliaga, MPH is a Behavioral Health Program Manager for Women’s Services at the CT Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS.) She is the Program Manager for Women’s REACH (Recovery, Engagement, Access, Coaching, and Healing), a statewide program which utilizes peer supports to help pregnant and parenting women and families impacted by substance use connect to treatment and recovery resources in their communities. She is also the manager for the Women’s Community Transition Support Program (WCTS), a community-based case management program that supports the recovery and independent living of pregnant/parenting women and birthing people exiting the DMHAS Women and Children’s system of care. Additionally, she supports the oversight and implementation of SEPI CT (Substance Exposed Pregnancy Initiative) and the statewide efforts to advance CAPTA and Family Care Plan knowledge and implementation. She also assists in the evaluation and auditing processes for the programs and contracts within her division and provides DMHAS representation at several state collaboratives focused on maternal and child health.

Prior to her role at DMHAS, Bridget worked as a Regional Substance Use Continuum of Care Facilitator at Dartmouth Health in New Hampshire and has a passionate reproductive health background having spent time as a Bilingual Outreach and Education Specialist at Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York.

Bridget received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the State University of New York at Albany and her master’s in public health with a concentration in Health Services Administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

The Connecticut Hospital Association (CHA) and the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is hosting a six-part webinar series PROUD: Trauma-Informed Care during summer, 2025. This virtual education series includes live sessions, with access to recorded sessions open for a year, designed to meet the needs of professionals working with individuals and families impacted by substance use and mental health.  Parents Recovering from Opioid and Other Use Disorders (PROUD) is a SAMHSA-funded program of DMHAS.  

Continuing Education credits are pending approval. These sessions are designed for physicians, nurses, social workers, quality professionals, risk managers, healthcare executives, and all healthcare professionals working with patients impacted by substance use and mental health.rget=”blank”]Click here for brochure[/su_cha_button]
