Celebrating National Rural Health Day

On Thursday, November 21, the nation will celebrate Rural Health Day, an annual observance that shines a light on how rural hospitals and health systems work tirelessly to guarantee all patients in every community have equitable access to timely, high-quality, affordable care.

From sparse transportation options, to workforce shortages, to insufficient Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement rates — hospitals and care providers serving rural areas face significant challenges and are constantly developing innovative solutions to overcome those obstacles.

State Comptroller Sean Scanlon’s Healthcare Cabinet has convened a Rural Healthcare Subcommittee, co-chaired by Kyle Kramer, CEO of Day Kimball Healthcare, to examine many of these issues and identify tools to combat disparities.  Learn more in the 2024 Healthcare Cabinet Report about the subcommittee’s recommended strategies to bolster infrastructure and expand resources in Connecticut’s rural communities.
