Hospital Community Benefit Advocacy Day at the Capitol Draws Lawmakers, State Officials

The Connecticut Hospital Association (CHA) hosted its second annual Hospital Community Benefit Advocacy Day at the State Capitol on Thursday, April 30, bringing together legislators, state officials, hospital teams, and community partners to highlight the far-reaching contributions of Connecticut hospitals.

Teams from Connecticut Children’s, Bristol Health, Day Kimball Health, Hartford HealthCare, Middlesex Health, Nuvance Health (part of Northwell Health), Stamford Health, Trinity Health Of New England, and Yale New Haven Health, as well as many community partners, participated in the event.  Lawmakers attended to learn firsthand about a wide range of programs and initiatives designed to promote community well-being, improve health outcomes, and reinforce the healthcare safety net.

Throughout the afternoon, hospitals and partner organizations distributed informational materials, conducted free health screenings, and offered giveaways to raise awareness about programs addressing critical needs in communities statewide.  The event showcased collaborative efforts spanning nutrition counseling, behavioral health services, violence prevention, blood pressure management, and mobile urgent care in underserved areas.

These initiatives reflect how hospitals are working alongside local organizations to close gaps in care, connect individuals with preventive services where and when they need them, and address social drivers of health.   By combining clinical expertise with community-based support, these partnerships are expanding access to vital resources and educating both patients and providers.

Hospital Community Benefit Advocacy Day served as a powerful reminder of the essential role hospitals play beyond their walls — building healthier, more resilient communities now and into the future.
