Fundamental to every HRO is the need to encourage robust error and event reporting along with clear lines between acceptable and unacceptable behavior.  Building a culture of psychological safety is key to success but that does not happen in the classroom.  Instead, it is created by building trust in leadership amongst staff and physicians. This emerges from consistent and concrete – not abstract – leadership behaviors, including a fair and just response approach to performance deviations, where unintentional human errors are not punished, but choices to disregard policies or act recklessly are met with clear and fair consequences.

The second session in this five-part senior leader series is virtual and presented by Press Ganey’s Steve Kreiser and Greg Prentiss.
