From Evidence to Practice: Enhancing Doula-Clinician Collaboration in Hospital Settings

Perinatal clinical and nonclinical staff and doulas who work in Fairfield County are encouraged to participate in these educational forums to discuss safety, equity, and scopes of practice. Scroll down to view information on upcoming sessions. Registration is required.

This educational event is intended to strengthen collaboration between hospital clinicians and community doulas in labor and delivery settings. It will focus on clarifying roles and scope, addressing common misconceptions, and aligning collaborative practice with maternal quality, safety, and equity priorities. Participants will gain practical, bedside-ready strategies to improve communication, workflow coordination, and maternal outcomes with a focus on maternal health equity.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the role of doulas in the hospital setting
  • Differentiate the scopes of practice of doulas from those of clinical staff
  • Explain at least three evidence-based benefits of doula support on maternal, neonatal, and patient experience outcomes, with attention to equity impacts
  • Identify at least two common misconceptions or barriers to doula-clinician collaboration between hospital teams and doulas in real-time clinical scenarios
  • Apply at least two practical communication or workflow strategies to improve collaboration between hospital teams and doulas

Continuing Education Credits will be available for nurses and physicians.
