Appropriations OKs budget slightly above Lamont’s, and slightly over spending cap

HARTFORD, CT — It took nearly 10 hours, but the Appropriations Committee approved a draft of a two-year, 2026-27 state budget Tuesday that represents a slight increase over the one proposed by Gov. Ned Lamont in February.

Backed by the panel’s Democrats, the budget passed 40-13. Sen. Cathy Osten, a Sprague Democrat and one of the committee’s co-chairs, acknowledged the budget has a long way to go in the process before the General Assembly adjourns June 4.
