CHA Announces Annual Award Winners

CHA is pleased to announce the winners of the 2024 Connecticut’s Hospital Community Service Award and the 2024 John D. Thompson Award for Excellence in the Delivery of Healthcare Through the Use of Data

This year, CHA received many highly qualified nominations, including 12 Community Service Award entries and 28 John D. Thompson Award entries.  The winners of these prestigious awards, as selected by a panel of judges, are as follows:

  • Community Service Award: Norwalk Hospital’s Community Psychiatric Outreach Program
  • Community Service Award: Yale New Haven Hospital’s Medical-Legal Partnership Project (MLPP)
  • John D. Thompson Award: The Adult Kidney Transplant Program at Hartford Hospital

Connecticut’s Hospital Community Service Award recognizes a Connecticut hospital or health system that has made an outstanding contribution to its community, including by: developing and implementing an innovative program or service that meets a specific need or addresses the concerns of a targeted segment of its community; investing both time and resources in the development and implementation of the project; and operating the project for at least a year.

The John D. Thompson Award for Excellence in the Delivery of Healthcare Through the Use of Data honors the contributions made by John D. Thompson to healthcare administration and patient care quality during his career.  Entrants from Connecticut hospitals and health systems were asked to describe how they have achieved excellence in patient care through the use of data as demonstrated by the improvement of internal operations, procedures, and outcomes.

CHA thanks all those who submitted entries and shared their hospital’s outstanding work.  Congratulations to the winning entries.

In addition to the above awards presented to winners selected by the judging panels, the CHA Executive Committee has conferred two additional awards:

  • Stewart Hamilton, MD, Distinguished Service Award: Presented to Stephen Frayne
  • Service in Pursuit of Excellence Award: Presented to William (Bill) Hoey, Sr. posthumously

The T. Stewart Hamilton, MD, Distinguished Service Award, introduced in 1970, is granted to individuals who “contribute significant, noteworthy services to the health of the public.”  Recipients are individuals who have made a career in the healthcare field and have contributed or achieved excellence in governance, management, or clinical services.

The Service in Pursuit of Excellence Award was established in 2015 by the Executive Committee to honor individuals who have displayed extraordinary service to the healthcare field.  Recipients will have demonstrated dedication in areas including: patient care, quality and patient safety, health equity, population health – or for innovative work in any area that advances the healthcare mission.

Finally, CHA’s Healthcare Heroes Award, which celebrates and recognizes the invaluable contributions of exceptional healthcare workers, both to their field and to the community at large, will be presented to a hero selected by each hospital.

All award winners will be recognized at CHA’s Annual Meeting on June 13, 2024 at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville.
