In an article published Friday, October 30, Hearst Connecticut Media examines federal policies poised to further strain hospitals’ already fragile fiscal health, including 340B Drug Program reimbursement changes, steep Medicaid cuts, and a proposed limit on provider taxes.
“We have really fantastic things going on with our hospitals and systems related to the quality of care and improvements that our hospitals are making, but these are really significant challenges that we’re managing through at the same time,” said Paul Kidwell, senior vice president of policy, CHA, in an interview with the outlet.
Connecticut residents should prioritize getting needed medical care over concerns about the impact of federal cuts, Kidwell said.
“Our message to patients is you should come see your healthcare provider,” Kidwell said, adding that hospitals are working to connect people to low-cost health insurance programs and provide financial aid for medical bills. “We are going to make sure that people get served in Connecticut, and these are significant challenges. But that should never stop a patient from coming to seek care.”
