Connecticut Recognized for Excellence in the Delivery of Children’s Healthcare

The state of Connecticut has once again been named as one of the best in the nation for healthcare — this time for children’s healthcare.

According to a recently published WalletHub analysis, Connecticut ranks third in the country, thanks to its high number of pediatricians and family doctors per capita and the highest share of children 19-35 months old who have received the combined 7-vaccine series.  WalletHub attributed several more factors that placed Connecticut at the top of the list, writing:

Connecticut promotes healthy diets, as the state has the 10th-lowest percentage of children who eat fruits less than once per day.  The state ranks fifth for access to healthy food in the country and has the fourth-lowest share of children without health insurance coverage.  Connecticut has one of the lowest infant mortality rates in the nation, which is indicative of the state’s robust newborn healthcare system.  The state’s dedication to child safety, wellbeing, and high-quality medical care is further evidenced by the fact that it has the lowest death rate for children under the age of 14.

The main scoring criteria considered cost, quality, and access to children’s healthcare, along with the number of pediatricians and family doctors per capita.  WalletHub says it also factored in kids’ oral health, nutrition, and rates of obesity, as well as percentages of adolescents up to age 17 in excellent or very good health.

Connecticut leads the nation in quality care, consistently ranked by independent organizations as among the best in the country: 2nd most accessible healthcare (Forbes), 3rd best healthcare overall (U.S. News), 4th healthiest state (America’s Health Rankings), and 4th safest hospitals (The Leapfrog Group).  As anchor institutions for health, hospitals are fundamental to earning these recognitions.
