This Tuesday, April 7, the Connecticut National Guard will host a free, in-person workshop for behavioral health clinicians, especially those who treat military-connected clients, designed to build foundational knowledge to support service members, veterans, and their families.
This full-day interactive training, titled “Tier One: Introduction to Military Culture and the Military-Connected Experience,” is scheduled for 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Middletown Armed Forces Reserve Center. The class is approved to award attendees seven (7) continuing education (CE) credits.
The course is delivered by Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP), a community of licensed civilian mental health providers who are trained in military culture and best practices.
Participants will examine the lived experiences and common stressors faced by service members and their families, including frequent relocations, extended separations, and deployment. Emphasis will be placed on strengthening civilian clinicians’ understanding of how assimilation into military culture shapes service members’ identity, performance, and family dynamics.
