Recognizing Patient Safety Awareness Week

During Patient Safety Awareness Week, Connecticut hospitals are proud to highlight their continued commitment to delivering the safest, highest-quality care in the nation.

Connecticut consistently ranks among the nation’s leaders in patient safety and healthcare quality — a reflection of the dedication, expertise, and collaboration of healthcare professionals across our state.

More than a decade ago, Connecticut hospitals became the first in the nation to unite around a shared, statewide mission to prioritize improvements in patient safety.  In 2012, hospitals across the state adopted a High Reliability Organization (HRO) initiative, embracing proactive, collaborative strategies to prevent harm, strengthen best practices, and increase accountability.

That work continues today through HRO Forward, launched in 2023 as the next phase of the initiative.  HRO Forward brings together hospital leaders and staff for expert-led education and multidisciplinary training based on the latest safety science, while fostering a culture where team members feel empowered to speak up, question assumptions, and continuously improve care.

Through these efforts, Connecticut hospitals are building on a strong foundation — strengthening collaboration across healthcare settings and ensuring patients receive the safest care possible.

This week, and every week, we celebrate and recognize the incredible work of the caregivers who dedicate themselves to protecting patients and advancing a culture of safety across Connecticut hospitals.
