Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM) Advisory Group

CHA convenes the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM) Advisory Group in Connecticut. The group gathers throughout the year and represents leads from birthing hospitals across the state to support best practices that make birth safe and improve maternal health outcomes. The group follows the national AIM model focused on the implementation of patient safety bundles (PSB) in clinical settings. The AIM model was originally developed with funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), in partnership with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). Nationally, AIM is a cross-sector commitment designed to support best practices that reduce maternal mortality and severe maternal morbidity (SMM) within the United States.
AIM Patient Safety Bundles
In Connecticut, the AIM patient safety bundles (PSB) are implemented with technical assistance provided through the national AIM Technical Assistance (TA) Center and facilitated by CHA. Patient safety bundles are a structured way of improving the processes of care and patient outcomes. PSBs are collections of evidence-informed best practices, developed by multidisciplinary experts, that address clinically specific conditions in pregnant and postpartum patients. A bundle includes actionable steps that can be adapted to a variety of facilities and resource levels.
In Connecticut, hospitals are currently implementing the Severe Hypertension in Pregnancy Patient Safety Bundle and plan to implement the Perinatal Mental Health Conditions Patient Safety Bundle in 2026-2027.
