The Connecticut Urgent Maternal Warning Signs Bracelet Initiative — a state-funded effort led by the Connecticut Perinatal Quality Collaborative (CPQC) — aims to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality by improving clinical awareness of potential postpartum complications and conditions. Starting this fall, birthing hospitals across the state will provide postpartum patients with an orange bracelet that signals to healthcare professionals and emergency personnel that the wearer is newly postpartum, enhancing recognition of and response to urgent maternal warning signs.

The Bracelet Initiative educates healthcare providers on standardized lifesaving protocols to ensure a safer postpartum experience for birthing persons.

This important virtual webinar on Tuesday, September 9, is specifically designed to train hospital staff and healthcare providers to support individuals wearing an orange bracelet.

Audience: OB staff, NICU staff, social work, and direct service and administrators, such as patient registration and triage staff

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the risk factors that contribute to delayed recognition or response to postpartum complications, particularly among special populations
  • Discuss best practices to providing clear, culturally responsive education to birthing patients and families about postpartum warning signs, including when and how to seek emergency care, how to communicate symptoms clearly, and how to confidently advocate for the care they need
  • Describe ways to incorporate standardized postpartum warning education into discharge planning processes to ensure consistent and effective patient understanding

Webinar Presenters:

  • Jen Dowe, Director of Perinatal Specialty Programs, Hartford HealthCare
  • Kelley Reddington, Perinatal Safety Nurse, Trinity Health Of New England

Continuing education (CE) credits are available.
