As Congressional Republicans try to deliver a budget to President Donald Trump before the end of the week, opponents are making one last plea for a pause.
Critics warn that could result in eligible recipients being kicked off because of problems with paperwork.
Connecticut Hospital Association Vice President of System Innovation and Financing Mark Schaefer said he’s also worried that the changes could result in eligible people losing their Medicaid over paperwork issues.
He said that could result in those people delaying medical care.
People without insurance are also more likely to go to an emergency room, which is more expensive, but also cannot turn people away.
“In the end, those costs will be borne not only by hospitals, but also by employers and the employed or insured population and the rest of Connecticut’s taxpayers,” Schaefer said.
