Hartford HealthCare names new Cancer Institute chief

A nationally recognized hematologic oncologist has been named to succeed Dr. Peter Yu as physician-in-chief for the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute.

The Hartford-based health system said Monday that Dr. Adam Boruchov, a senior vice president and chair of Northwell Health’s Cancer Institute, will succeed Yu, who is stepping down to “transition to the honorary role of physician-in-chief emeritus.”

Yu was named the first physician-in-chief of the institute in April 2016. In his emeritus role, he will continue advancing strategic oncology informatics initiatives, HHC officials said.

In his new role, Boruchov will focus on advancing innovation, strengthening physician leadership and further leveraging HHC’s strategic partnership with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, HHC said.

He has extensive experience leading systemwide oncology strategy, expanding clinical research and trials, and developing high-performing cancer networks, HHC said in a statement.

In addition to his work at Northwell, formerly Nuvance Health, Boruchov has also held leadership positions with Trinity Health Of New England.

Boruchov earned his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and his medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha.

He completed his internal medicine residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital and his hematology and oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where he also held faculty and research appointments.
