CT Insurance Department sets date for hearing on 2027 rate increase requests

The state Insurance Department on Tuesday said it will hold a hybrid public informational meeting next month on the 2027 rate requests submitted by health insurers.

In June, it was disclosed that Connecticut health insurers are seeking double-digit premium increases for most individual and small-group health plans in 2027, citing rising medical and prescription drug costs, worsening claims experience and the anticipated loss of enhanced federal subsidies.

The meeting, to be held on Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 9 a.m., is scheduled to be held in Room 1D of the Legislative Office Building at 300 Capitol Ave. in Hartford, but will also be held virtually.

The meeting will include presentations by the insurance companies on their requested rate changes. The department, other state agencies, executive officers and elected officials will then have an opportunity to ask questions.

Following those discussions, the meeting will open for public comment. Comments may be submitted in writing and/or delivered in person. Oral comments will be limited to three minutes per speaker.

Registration is required to speak via Zoom. To register, email cid.ratefilingspeaker@ct.gov by 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 24. Those registering are asked to include their full name and organization (if applicable), and attach any written remarks.

Those wishing to speak in person may sign up beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 26.
