Yale New Haven Health CCO: New study sets ‘record straight’ on physician practice acquisitions

A new study published by JAMA Network Open found that physician practices approach health systems to initiate acquisition deals mainly due to the financial pressures of remaining independent.

Over the past two decades, health system and hospital acquisitions of physician practices have transformed the physician employment landscape. In 2024, more than half of physicians worked for health systems compared to 20% in 2010, according to the JAMA Network Open study.
