Republican Mike France of Gales Ferry announced Monday he is seeking to run for the 19th District state Senate seat currently held by incumbent Democrat Cathy Osten of Sprague.

France is a retired U.S. Navy officer, Ledyard town councilor, engineer and former 42nd District state representative who unsuccessfully challenged Democrat Joe Courtney for his Second District congressional seat in 2022 and 2024.

“My entire adult life has been dedicated to service. First to our nation, then to my community, including serving in the legislature,” he said in his announcement. “Connecticut faces serious challenges. I am running for State Senate to bring disciplined leadership, real-world experience, and a commitment to results.”

He said his campaign priorities would focus on restoring fiscal responsibility and transparency, supporting job creation and economic growth across eastern Connecticut, protecting taxpayers while maintaining essential services and advocating for small towns, families and local communities whose voices are often ignored in Hartford.

The 19th District is comprised of Columbia, Franklin, Hebron, Lebanon, Ledyard, Lisbon, Marlborough, Montville, Norwich and Sprague.
