Yale New Haven Health may have backed out of its deal to acquire Waterbury, Manchester Memorial and Rockville General hospitals, but that doesn’t mean it has given up on expanding its reach.
On Friday, the Tomasso Group announced that YNHH has signed a long-term lease for 9,974 square feet at One Liberty Square, an office building in downtown New Britain.
In its announcement, Tomasso Group said YNHH intends to use the space to deliver primary care and a range of additional medical services to residents of New Britain and central Connecticut.
YNHH CEO Christopher O’Connor told the Hartford Business Journal in November that losing out on the three hospitals owned by bankrupt Prospect Medical Holdings did not alter his health system’s plans to expand urgent and ambulatory care centers into central Connecticut.
“We have plans being activated now to do that,” he said at the time. “The board has already given us the seed money necessary to initiate that work. So we are absolutely going to continue our ambulatory expansion.”
Hartford HealthCare received state approval this week to acquire Manchester Memorial and Rockville General hospitals. UConn Health, meanwhile, has filed an emergency certificate of need application seeking approval to acquire Waterbury Hospital.
Yale New Haven Health was represented in the lease deal by Jay Hruska, executive vice chairman at Cushman & Wakefield.
