State Officials, Advocates Observe Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) is observed every October to unite advocates and communities in efforts to end domestic violence, empower survivors, and eliminate stigma.  Throughout the month, the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence’s (CCADV) 18 member organizations hold local events to engage community partners and raise awareness about the services and resources available across the state.

On Tuesday, October 8, Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, state officials, and advocates raised a purple flag in the state capitol in Hartford to serve as a symbol of hope.  CCADV is also calling on all community members to wear purple on Thursday, October 17 in honor of survivors.

The Connecticut Hospital Association (CHA) has collaborated with CCADV to promote education about intimate partner violence (IPV) and intervention trainings for healthcare providers.  Access part one of the CHA “Pregnancy and Intimate Partner Violence” webinar here and part two here.
