On Friday, June 14 the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) and the Connecticut Women’s Consortium are hosting the third annual LGBTQIA+ Conference. This year’s theme is “Continuing Conversations Across the LGBTQIA+ Continuum.”
In hosting the conference, the Department notes its commitment “to ensuring that the LGBTQIA+ community is supported within our system of care and that providers are well poised to provide LGBTQIA+ inclusive and affirming care.”
Experts, including those with lived experience, will speak on diverse topics impacting the community. There are four featured speakers. Charles Hawthorne, MPH, (they/them) will present “Creating Space: Strategies for Supporting LGBTQIA+ People Who Use Drugs.” Kathryn Tierney, APRN, (she/her) will present “Gender Affirming Care: A Case-based Approach.” Robin McHaelen, MSW, (she/her) will present “Exploring the SOGIE Verse (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, & Expression).” And Stefan Simanovich, LCSW, (he/him) will present “The ‘Holism’ of Gender: Creating a More Loving World Where We All Belong.”
The conference takes place on Friday, June 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Connecticut Women’s Consortium in Hamden, CT. This is a hybrid event, and seats are limited for on-site participation. Additional participants can join via Zoom.
