Recognizing Maternal Health Awareness Day

On Thursday, January 23, the nation recognizes Maternal Health Awareness Day.  Connecticut hospitals are committed to providing high-quality, equitable healthcare to pregnant and postpartum people across the state.  Connecticut hospitals and health systems have adopted a four-part Statewide Strategy To Improve Maternal Health to guide their collective work and advocacy, informed by comprehensive federal and state-level reports on maternal health.  The four-part strategy includes:

  • Strategy 1: Address Structural, Upstream, Root Cause Drivers of Maternal Health Such as Racism, Discrimination, and Economic Inequality
  • Strategy 2: Support Programs to Expand Mental Health Services for Perinatal Mental Health Disorders Across the State
  • Strategy 3: Ensure Those Giving Birth Are Heard and Are Decision-Makers in Their Care
  • Strategy 4: Advance Data Collection, Standardization, and Harmonization to Capture Data on Health Conditions of Pregnancy and the Postpartum Period and Improve Maternal Care

Hospitals and health systems work with community partners every day to reduce maternal health risks, improve care access, and promote progress.  Click here to learn about examples of this collaborative work on CHA’s website.
