Lamont Administration Launches Reporting Tool To Track Local Impact of Federal Actions

This month, Governor Ned Lamont announced his administration has developed a new online portal where Connecticut businesses, nonprofits, and municipalities are encouraged to report issues they’ve encountered as a result federal policy and funding changes.  The administration cites its goal is to compile the information into a central database and provide state policymakers with a better understanding of how these directives are affecting various groups, geographical regions, and sectors of the economy.

“State government has an important responsibility in responding to any crisis that is happening within our borders, and this reporting tool is intended to shed a light on how these changes from the federal government are affecting people who live, work, and learn in Connecticut,” Governor Lamont said in a press release.

Examples of reportable information include pauses, cancellations, and reductions in federal funding, reductions in employment, and impacts from tariffs.  The administration says the information collected will be shared with the relevant state agencies, which will utilize the data to help inform the state’s response as these directives from the federal government continue to be made.

The announcement comes after the Trump administration rescinded an estimated $175 million in public health grants that fund initiatives and resources provided by the Connecticut Departments of Public Health (DPH) Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS); imposed a 125% tax hike on Chinese imports and indicated intent to levy future tariffs on pharmaceuticals; slashed the federal workforce across a range of agencies, including within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS); and floated cuts to Medicaid and Social Security.

The Connecticut Hospital Association (CHA) continues to review these administrative actions, as well as new actions that are being taken, and the potential impact of these actions on hospitals, health systems, patients, and communities.
