Lamont, lawmakers to extend CT fund to counter federal cutbacks

With the federal government teetering on the brink of another partial shutdown, Gov. Ned Lamont and legislative leaders pledged Thursday to maintain an emergency state fund to shield human services programs facing deep cuts from Washington.

The roughly $330 million remaining out of $500 million Lamont and the General Assembly dedicated to this effort was supposed to expire after January, returning to regular budget reserves.

But given the uncertainty on Capitol Hill, the fund still is needed, the governor said.
