HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) – Connecticut lawmakers voted on two bills that would expand restrictions on where ICE can operate in the state.
Democratic lawmakers want to stop ICE from entering places of worship and hospitals. They say people should not be afraid of their government. Republicans say the measures are not necessary and would only make it harder for ICE to do its job.
ICE raids in cities across the country have generated fear, prompting Connecticut lawmakers to take action.
Connecticut Attorney General William Tong supports more restrictions. He says ICE should be banned from schools and places of worship.
