The Connecticut Catholic Public Affairs Conference pledged to support a repeal of the so-called ‘Safe Harbor’ proposal, which the legislature passed this session and which would provide financial support for people from out of state seeking reproductive or gender-affirming health care services in Connecticut.
According to a legislative report issued after the session wrapped up on June 5, the Safe Harbor account would be set up through the state treasurer’s office, be administered by a board of trustees, and be funded by private sources. Funding would be in the shape of grants from nonprofit organizations, to be dispersed for the services themselves or related collateral costs, including travel, lodging, or meals.
