The American Hospital Association launched an ad campaign Monday urging Congress to protect hospital funding as lawmakers consider more than $1 trillion in healthcare cuts.

The ad shows a montage of patients receiving care and emphasizes the important role hospitals play in their communities. It ends with the statement, “Tell Congress: Protect hospital care.”

The new campaign launches as the Senate mulls over potential healthcare cuts as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which legislators hope President Donald Trump will sign into law by July 4. Industry groups have pushed back on the proposed cuts, especially for Medicaid, and outlined the devastating impact they say the cuts would have on hospitals.

The AHA’s ads will run on broadcast and cable TV in Washington, D.C., in addition to running as digital ads, according to a Monday news release.

An AHA spokesperson said the campaign is a seven-figure purchase and the duration is still being determined.

The new campaign is one of multiple ways the association has been engaged in these issues for months, with tactics ranging from advocacy days and impact analyses to commentary pieces, the spokesperson said.

AHA isn’t the only group speaking up. Also on Monday, America’s Essential Hospitals President and CEO Dr. Bruce Siegel sent a letter to the Senate sharing the trade group’s concerns about policies under consideration that would limit Medicaid state directed payments and provider taxes. State directed payments and provider taxes have been a lifeline for many hospitals as costs rise and payer reimbursements fail to keep up with inflation.

America’s Essential Hospitals has estimated proposed cuts in the Senate bill would add more than $440 billion to hospitals’ uncompensated care costs over the next decade.

Republicans in favor of the legislation argue it would help limit healthcare spending and eliminate waste or fraud in the system.
