Clinical Staff to Healthcare Management: What’s Next?

Whether recently assigned to the role of healthcare manager or a seasoned veteran, it is essential to continually step back to assess one’s knowledge of management practice and how well one’s critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills are keeping pace with the rapidly changing and challenging healthcare environment.

Those who attended the first program in this leadership development series, “Clinical Staff to Healthcare Management: Starting the Transition” in January are encouraged to join this session, also.  All healthcare managers who want to improve their skills and learn practical techniques are welcome to register; attending the first session is not required.  With a focus on leading change initiatives, building team cohesiveness, coaching healthcare employees for better performance, and using time management strategies, this practical and interactive session will help one manage both the people and business components of their job more effectively.

2025 Joint Commission, Accreditation, and Regulatory Update

Join CHA for this on-site program on the 2025 accreditation and regulatory updates — focused on The Joint Commission (TJC) and the National Patient Safety Goals.

The program will begin with a presentation by Lisa DiBlasi Moorehead, EdD, Field Director for the Psychiatric Hospital Accreditation Program at The Joint Commission.  The presentation will cover lessons learned from the risks identified during hospital surveys conducted across the country, and specifically in Connecticut, over the last three years.  This presentation will also review new standards and areas of focus for 2025 and beyond.

Dr. Moorehead will be joined by senior leaders at Vizient to discuss The Joint Commission’s 2025 standards, the most challenging standards from 2024, and strategies for compliance.  Additionally, they will review CMS focus areas and best practices for a successful survey.

The intended audience includes all hospital and medical staff leaders involved in Joint Commission survey preparation: nurses, physicians, pharmacists, Joint Commission coordinators, quality improvement professionals, infection prevention specialists, human resource professionals, utilization and case managers, social workers, risk managers, corporate compliance officers, and in-house counsel.

CHA Education Series: Essential Skills Every Leader Needs
This spring, CHA is pleased to present its inter-functional leadership academy Essential Skills Every Leader Needs.  This six-session education series — being held virtually — will equip participants with new perspectives and tools.  This series is ideal for those new to nursing, social work, or another healthcare role and those wanting to brush up on current skills.

Participation in all six sessions is recommended.  A discount is available to those who register for the full series no later than March 4, when the first session takes place.

  • Tuesday, March 4 — 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.: The “Planning For Success: Leadership and Management Skills” session introduces participants to a leadership framework for analyzing personal values, leadership style, motivation drivers and influences, and communication style. Click here to register.
  • Tuesday, March 11 — 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.: The “Having Difficult Conversations” session will focus on understanding the tools needed to initiate challenging conversations and resolve conflicts effectively. Click here to register.

Virtual Sessions

As care providers, there is much to learn about how to help families managing substance use disorders be successful.  Parents Recovering from Opioid and Other Use Disorders (PROUD) includes an education series for healthcare and service providers, giving them tools to help individuals and families manage the many challenges they face.

The education series includes several recorded sessions open for a year from their recording date.  These sessions are free to participants (registration is necessary) and are available on demand to fit into busy schedules.
