18% of US pediatric hospital deaths linked to sepsis: What to know

Sepsis was present in 17.8% of nearly 4 million pediatric hospital deaths between 2016 and 2023, according to a study published March 22 in JAMA.

Researchers from academic institutions across the U.S. analyzed data from 3,925,809 pediatric hospitalizations across 245 health care systems between 2016 and 2023 in the Epic Cosmos database as well as 146 hospitals between 2018 and 2023 from Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare.
