Yale New Haven Health System has chosen a Yale School of Medicine executive as its next chief financial officer.
YNHHS announced Tuesday that Arnim Dontes has been appointed CFO, effective April 1.
Dontes most recently served as deputy dean for finance and administration at the Yale School of Medicine. He will oversee financial strategy for Connecticut’s largest health system, which operates five hospitals and numerous specialty networks across the region.
In a statement, YNHHS CEO Christopher O’Connor said Dontes’ experience managing complex financial operations will help guide the organization’s long-term growth.
Dontes has spent the past five years at the YSM, where he oversaw a $3 billion operating budget and led financial, human resources, capital planning, information technology and other administrative functions. In that role, he also worked closely with leaders at YNHHS to strengthen alignment between the medical school and the health system.
Before joining Yale, Dontes served as executive vice president for business affairs at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center from 2011 to 2021, where he directed more than 15 administrative departments. Earlier in his career, he held senior leadership positions at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, including vice dean for administration.
Dontes has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and an MBA from the University of Illinois Chicago.
He succeeds Gail Kosyla, who served as executive vice president and CFO for about three years before being ousted in October 2025 as part of a leadership shakeup.
Kosyla was one of four top YNHHS executives who departed the organization at that time.
