CT’s community health centers seek to limit coverage losses from federal changes

CHESHIRE, CT — Connecticut’s community health centers are urging state lawmakers to strengthen Medicaid enrollment systems, expand reimbursement for community health worker services and stabilize the health care workforce as federal policy changes under H.R. 1 are expected to reduce coverage for a significant number of residents.

The Community Health Center Association of Connecticut, which represents 17 federally qualified health center organizations serving more than 452,000 patients each year — roughly 1 in 8 Connecticut residents — released its 2026 legislative priorities this week. The agenda focuses on limiting coverage losses tied to federal eligibility changes, fully implementing Medicaid reimbursement for community health worker services, maintaining access to primary and urgent care as federal funding and eligibility rules shift, and sustaining workforce capacity through continued support for the State Loan Repayment Program as pandemic-era funding expires.
