Hospital for Special Care names new CEO

New Britain’s Hospital for Special Care has a new CEO.

Crista F. Durand will lead the nationally known long-term acute care facility. She comes to HFSC from Newport Hospital in Rhode Island where she has been CEO for the past 10 years.

Connecticut native Durand succeeds Lynn Ricci, who has served as CEO of HFSC since 2015, and first joined the hospital in 2004. Ricci announced her intention to retire late last year.

Ricci is credited with significantly growing program services, with the hospital now serving patients from the entire state of Connecticut as well as 24 other states throughout the country.

Durand will take up her new position March 3.

“Crista’s acute care background will add best practices from that arena to our already ample skill set,” said the hospital’s board chair Diane Chace. “We are all thrilled to hand our strategic planning and growth reins to Crista and to support her in broadening our autism services to include adult populations, growing our inpatient and outpatient neuroscience programs, and building on our expertise in the treatment of children and adults with complex needs.”

HFSC, which has facilities in New Britain and Hartford, is also recognized for advanced care and rehabilitation in pulmonary care, acquired brain injury, medically complex pediatrics, and neuromuscular disorders including ALS.
