Connecticut Ranks Third in the Nation for Healthcare Access

In a report released by U.S. News, Connecticut ranks third out of the 50 states in healthcare, coming in at third for healthcare access and sixth in the nation for public health.

According to the report, only 7.2% of the population doesn’t have health insurance compared to the national average of 11.3%, and Connecticut’s obesity rate is 30.4% compared to the national average of 33.9%.

“I think the expectation is they’re going to get some of the best healthcare that’s offered in America, and they’re going to find very compassionate and competent caregivers,” Paul Kidwell, Senior VP, Policy, CHA said in an interview with Fox61.  “Our commitment is to building a healthier Connecticut, and it’s also a commitment by policymakers to say we have a role to play to ensure people are insured, people can go access the care that they need, so it really says we are all working together to support good health.”

Kidwell remarked that providers are increasingly focused on investing in and prioritizing preventive care.

“We’re starting to increase primary care access and making sure people are really taking care of chronic conditions so that we can keep as many people out of the hospital as possible,” Kidwell said.
