Senator Kevin Kelly Reported To Be Nominated as Judge

It has been reported that State Senator Kevin Kelly (R-Stratford) will not be sworn into office on Wednesday, January 8 and will instead be included on a slate of upcoming judicial nominations to be submitted to the General Assembly by Governor Ned Lamont.

In the event Kelly declines to take the oath of office next week, his senate seat would be vacated, and a special election would take place.

First elected to the Connecticut State Senate in 2010, Sen. Kelly was recently reelected to represent the residents of the 21st Senatorial District, which includes the towns of Monroe, Seymour, Shelton, and Stratford.

Sen. Kelly, an elder law attorney, has most recently served as the Ranking Member of the Higher Education and the Legislative Management Committees and as a member of the Executive and Legislative Nominations and the Regulations Review Committees.  Sen. Kelly previously served as Ranking Member of the Committees on Aging, Children, Human Services, and Insurance and Real Estate.  From 2020-2024, Sen. Kelly served as the Senate Republican Leader.
