Yale New Haven Health to open retail pharmacy at Bridgeport Hospital

Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) on Friday announced plans to open another retail pharmacy, this time in the lobby of Bridgeport Hospital.

Hospital officials held a ribbon-cutting to mark the start of work on the facility, which is scheduled to open early next year and offer integrated, personalized pharmacy services for patients, employees and the community.

The pharmacy will be open seven days a week for patients being discharged from the hospital, as well as for patients looking to refill prescriptions, residents who live in the area and need convenient access to a retail pharmacy, and for hospital employees.

“This pharmacy not only provides convenient access to medications, it also will bridge the gap between inpatient care and patients going home,” said Anne Diamond, Bridgeport Hospital president.

She said having a pharmacy in the hospital enables patients to access medications before they leave, as well as to ask questions and learn how to take their medications safely and effectively.

The pharmacy is also intended to improve access to pharmacy services for the entire community.

The Bridgeport Hospital retail pharmacy will be the sixth to be opened by YNHHS.
