Dozens of hospital and health system leaders from across the state attended the Connecticut Association of Healthcare Executives’ (CTAHE) 2025 State of the State event on Tuesday, January 14 at the Connecticut Hospital Association (CHA) in Wallingford.
Karen Buckley, vice president of advocacy, CHA, and Brian Cournoyer, director of government relations, CHA, presented on a variety of topics, including a review of the 2024 Legislative Session, expectations and policy goals for the 2025 Legislative Session, and an analysis of how the November election and incoming presidential administration may impact Connecticut hospitals.
Jim Iacobellis, senior adviser and former senior vice president of legislative and regulatory advocacy, CHA, also joined the panel discussion to share valuable insights on the future ahead.
The speakers examined federal advocacy priorities, including efforts to extend and expand telehealth flexibilities, permanently adopt hospital-at-home waivers, protect the 340B Drug Pricing Program, pass the Safety from Violence for Hospital Employees (SAVE) Act, and address burdensome commercial insurance practices. They also highlighted CHA’s Medicaid Redesign Framework, which invests in community health, and underscored that hospitals’ continued financial challenges are exacerbated by chronic government underpayment of the program.
CTAHE represents professionals who manage the business affairs of healthcare organizations throughout the state. Organization membership comprises hospitals, health plans, health systems, independent physician associations, industry partners, and universities. CTAHE is a chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), an international professional society of more than 40,000 healthcare executives who lead hospitals, healthcare systems, and other healthcare organizations.
