In this session, Gloria Goins, former Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer for Bon Secours Mercy Health System, will discuss practical actions that can be taken to reduce the effects of unconscious bias in healthcare operations. Recognized as one of Becker’s Hospital Review 15 chief diversity officers in healthcare, Ms. Goins will share her expertise regarding evidence-based impacts of unconscious bias on safety, quality, and mortality and how the healthcare industry is unintentionally putting patients at risk. The importance of cross-cultural competency will be discussed as we define what it means to address, support, and manage the ever-changing United States population, as the world faces the effects of COVID-19.
