Yale New Haven Health plans to shut down its in-house recruiting department and outsource the work to staffing firm Korn Ferry, the New Haven-based system announced on Wednesday.
All of the 70 people currently working at Yale New Haven Health in recruiting will be offered the chance to apply for jobs at Korn Ferry, a spokesperson said.
“This partnership will enhance our ability to recruit and retain top talent by leveraging cutting-edge technology and best-in-class recruitment processes,” Yale New Haven Health said in a statement.
Employees who do not take jobs with Korn Ferry will be laid off as of January, the spokesperson said.
Based in Los Angeles, Korn Ferry will take over recruitment for both clinical and administrative jobs at Yale New Haven Health, which employs about 29,000 people across the state.
Earlier this year, 25 unionized medical coders working remotely for Lawrence + Memorial Hospital were also told their jobs had been eliminated as part of an effort to standardize medical coding across Yale New Haven Health’s five hospitals. Qualified remote workers were eligible to apply for vacancies elsewhere in the system, the spokesperson said.
Yale New Haven Health also outsourced its employee child care this year, closing one day care center location. All day care workers in good standing were offered jobs at Bright Horizons, the company taking over services. The move was made as part of cost-cutting measures, according to health system officials quoted in The Yale Daily News.
Yale New Haven Health reported an operating loss of $162 million in the year prior to September 30, 2023, an improvement from the $240 million loss reported in the same period in 2022, according to financial documents submitted as part of a state bond issue.
This story has been corrected after a Yale New Haven Health spokesperson clarified an earlier statement. The people laid off will be offered a chance to apply for jobs at Korn Ferry.
