Gov. Ned Lamont has joined a coalition of 14 other governors to launch the Governors Public Health Alliance, a new bipartisan initiative aimed at improving coordination among states to address emerging health threats and strengthen emergency preparedness.
Supported by the nonprofit Governors Action Alliance (GovAct), the group will act as a forum for governors and their public health leaders to share data, exchange best practices and align on policies related to health security, disease prevention and emergency response.
The initiative is intended to complement regional collaborations such as the Northeast Public Health Collaborative, which already connects Connecticut and neighboring states on laboratory and readiness efforts.
Founding members include the governors of California, Colorado, Delaware, Guam, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island and Washington.
The alliance will be advised by several public health experts, including former CDC Director Dr. Mandy Cohen, former Alaska Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anne Zink, and Dr. Raj Panjabi, who previously led global health security efforts at the White House.
Member states have already begun exchanging information and receiving expert briefings on public health priorities, including access to vaccines and preparedness for future crises.
