CT nurse tells Congress rural hospital patients are Being harmed by shutdown

With the federal government shutdown ongoing with no end in sight, the reality is setting in that there could be real, painful consequences for ordinary Americans, including many in Connecticut.

Heather Brauth, a surgical nurse at Backus Hospital in Norwich and president of that hospital’s AFT affiliate Backus Federation of Nurses, said she and her colleagues take pride in giving patients the best care they can. But they are deeply worried that things are about to get much worse.
