Connecticut Children’s
Danielle Warren-Dias is a passionate advocate for women and children living with HIV and AIDS, and it is for her dedication and leadership that we proudly nominate her for the “Healthcare Hero” recognition. With over two decades of experience in HIV prevention, Danielle has significantly impacted both healthcare and the communities she serves.
As a Program Director with the Connecticut Children’s/UConn Health Pediatric, Youth & Family HIV Program, and co-leader of the Hartford Youth HIV Identification and Linkage Consortium, Danielle has helped position Connecticut as a national leader in pediatric HIV care. Her work focuses on educating youth and preventing the spread of HIV, making her a vital figure in the fight against the epidemic.
In 2021, Danielle was honored with the Trailblazer Award during the Connecticut World AIDS Day Commemoration. Reflecting on her career, she acknowledged the progress made in HIV treatment and prevention, while stressing that much work remains, particularly in combating stigma. Danielle’s journey began in the early 1990s, witnessing the devastating loss of life due to HIV, including helping a foster family with funeral arrangements for a 3-year-old girl. This moment remains a driving force in her advocacy.
Dr. Juan Salazar, Connecticut Children’s Physician-in-Chief, praised Danielle’s leadership, noting that her efforts have been instrumental in advancing HIV care in the state. Her compassion, wisdom, and tireless spirit have shaped the success of these programs.
Danielle’s continued dedication to the fight against HIV and AIDS, fueled by a deep love for her work and the people she serves, makes her a true Healthcare Hero.
