Amy Benoit, Manager of Gaylord Specialty Healthcare’s Louis D. Traurig House – Connecticut’s only transitional living facility for people recovering from traumatic brain injury and stroke – embodies what it means to be a healthcare hero.
Amy goes above and beyond to ensure that Traurig House is more than just a place for residents to regain independence and work on daily living skills as they transition from hospital to home. She fosters a warm, supportive environment where residents feel comfortable, valued, and empowered as they prepare for the next step in their recovery journey. With an abundance of warmth, compassion, and patience, Amy welcomes and treats every person as if they were part of her own family and is a much-appreciated and trusted resource for residents’ loved ones.
One patient’s mother shared, “Amy takes patients from the hospital and truly makes them whole again. My son had a significant traumatic brain injury, and Amy not only ensured he received the best care, but she also kept me informed every step of the way.”
Her commitment regularly extends far beyond daily responsibilities. Amy often stays overnight to monitor new admissions, accompanies families to the ER, and even conducts home visits to ensure accurate treatment plans.
Under her leadership, Traurig House has become a model of excellence, inspiring philanthropic groups to donate nearly $600,000 over the past three years – funds that have provided essential care to those without insurance coverage.
Amy’s impact is undeniable. She sets the standard for compassionate, patient-centered care and has helped countless individuals recovering from stroke and traumatic brain injury successfully transition back into the community with confidence and independence. Her dedication, advocacy, and tireless efforts make her a true healthcare hero!
